Color Discrimination Challenge
Find the shape hidden in a field of coloured dots.
Informal challenge · not a health screening
About this challenge
A free color discrimination challenge. Find the shape hidden among coloured dots. Your score is a raw count of shapes found. Screens are not colour calibrated, so this activity cannot diagnose, confirm or rule out color blindness.
Choose Entry, Regular or Hard first.
What it measures
How many hidden shapes you identify among dotted figures that use uncalibrated screen colours.
How the score works
A raw count of shapes matched. No pass or fail label and no diagnostic classification.
If you correctly name the hidden shape in 5 of the 6 Entry figures, your result is 5 / 6. There is no pass or fail and no type of colour vision is inferred from a missed figure.
Entry, Regular and Hard
- Entry
- 6 experimental figures, untimed.
- Regular
- 20 figures with documented colour pairs that are a little closer together than Entry.
- Hard
- 20 figures with closer colour pairs and more varied dot brightness, still comfortable to view. Harder only means a harder game, never a clinical category.
Each level has its own fixed set of items and its own score, so results are only compared within the same level. How levels are designed

Limits
Your screen, lighting, viewing distance and vision correction affect this activity. It cannot confirm or rule out color vision differences or determine a clinical vision prescription.
For education, entertainment and general self-exploration only. These activities are not medical or psychological assessments and do not diagnose, prevent or treat any condition. Results are estimates of performance on these tasks and can be affected by practice, attention, language, your device and your surroundings. If you have concerns about your thinking, vision or hearing, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Questions
Can this test diagnose color blindness?
No. Screen colours, brightness, lighting and viewing angle all vary, and the figures are not a clinical plate test. An eye care professional can test colour vision properly.
Why might I miss a shape with normal colour vision?
Some screens show these colours very close together, and lighting or night mode can shift them further.
Should I turn off night mode?
Yes. Turn off night or blue-light filters and use your usual brightness for the most consistent results on your device.
