Sustained Attention Challenge
Press only for the right symbol. Hold back for everything else.
About this challenge
A free go/no-go attention challenge. Symbols appear one at a time; you respond to the target and hold back for everything else. Your score is balanced accuracy, which weighs catching targets and ignoring non-targets equally. It does not screen for or diagnose any attention condition.
Choose Entry, Regular or Hard first.
What it measures
How well you respond to a target symbol and ignore others, reported as balanced accuracy, plus your median response time on correct targets.
How the score works
Hits, misses, false alarms and correct rejections are combined as balanced accuracy: the average of your hit rate and your correct rejection rate. Median response time on correct targets is shown separately.
With 12 targets and 12 non-targets, catching 11 targets (hit rate 92%) and correctly ignoring 9 non-targets (83%) gives balanced accuracy (92% + 83%) ÷ 2 = 87.5%. Pressing for every symbol would score only 50%, so guessing does not pay.
Entry, Regular and Hard
- Entry
- 24 trials, half targets, 1.2 second response window.
- Regular
- 20 balanced trials at a faster pace (1.0 second window).
- Hard
- 20 balanced trials where the non-targets look much more like the target, at the same pace as Regular. Only the look-alike distractors change.
Each level has its own fixed set of items and its own score, so results are only compared within the same level. How levels are designed

Questions
What is balanced accuracy?
The average of your hit rate on targets and your correct rejection rate on non-targets. It stops one strategy, like pressing every time, from looking good.
Can this tell me if I have ADHD?
No. This is an informal challenge, not a clinical test, and it cannot diagnose or rule out any condition. Talk to a qualified professional if you have concerns.
Why is response time shown separately?
Speed and accuracy can trade off. Showing them separately lets you see whether you got faster by being less careful.
